| Year in Review | ||||
| The AdventureHers club membership for 2005 was 65. The ride schedule worked well for the members. Activities that we participated in this year included: bike maintenance clinics, Assessippi ski trip, a canoe/kayak day, the Centennial Ride and the Women's Outdoor Weekend. | ||||
| Financial Report | ||||
| Donna presented the financial report. The club currently has an outstanding balance of $410.02. | ||||
| New Business | ||||
| Bike Maintenance Clinics | ||||
| Time consuming to organize and not very well attended. Won't be available Winter 2005. | ||||
| Rock Climbing | ||||
| Available at the Court & Fitness club on Sunday evenings from 7 to 10 pm at a cost of $5.00. This is not being organized by the AdventureHers club but by two other experienced climbers and is co-ed. |
||||
| Canoe Trip | ||||
| Anne Marie from Humboldt has agreed to guide a canoe trip for the AdventureHers club in 2006. A date has not been set yet and the trip hinges on Anne Marie being able to arrange vacation time. There will only be room for 5-7 women. A sign on sheet was at the meeting and all the available spots are filled. *Those on the list are requested to send a $100.00 cheque to hold a spot on the canoe trip list. This cheque will not be cashed until the canoe trip booking date is confirmed. | ||||
| Other Canoe/Kayak Events | ||||
| Deena has just purchased a cottage in Buena Vista and would like to have our group come to her cottage to paddle. Details will be outlined on the club schedule for next season. | ||||
| Outdoor Adventure Camp (Minaki) | ||||
| A trip to Minaki is being arranged for May 12-15th. Cost for the weekend including accommodations and meals is estimated at $220.00. The club will subsidize some of the transportation costs. There will be 20 spots available for the trip. The cost for the Minaki camp will be $230.00 per person. Transportation costs will be in addition to this. AdventureHers will subsidize some of the transportation costs. As a result we are hopiing to keep the transportation fee to $50.00 per person. This fee will be collected closer to the date.* The first 20 to send a deposit of $125.00 to Donna by February 1, 2006 will be guaranteed a spot on the trip. All others will be on a wait list and their cheques will not be deposited unless there is an opening. |
||||
| Ride Trip Exchange | ||||
| We would still like to pursue the opportunity of having a 'ride exchange' with some of the other women's clubs in the province. | ||||
| Mountain Bike Skills Coaching | ||||
| The club will not bring in a coach next season, as the cost is too prohibitive at this time. We felt we do not have enough members ready to benefit from outside coaching. It would also be a huge endeavor to organize. Some club members are planning to attend one of the Sugoi Dirt Series Mountain Bike Camps in late August sharing travel expenses and accommodations Contact Donna if you are interested. | ||||
| 2006 Ride Schedule | ||||
| There was some discussion about whether to delete the road ride night but the overall consensuses was to leave them in the schedule. | ||||
| 2006 Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoe Days | ||||
| Deena has volunteered to organize some club skiing this winter. The club is also planning to have a snowshoe day. The rental of snowshoes is $10.00 per person and FAE charges $50.00 for a half day of instruction. Katryna from FAE is available January 29, 2006 to do a snowshoe clinic for us. Email Deena if you are interested. | ||||
| 2006 Downhill Ski Trips | ||||
| There is the possibility of a ski trip in Jan or Feb. (March 11 & 12 has been selected for a trip to Asessippi Manitoba. A trip to BC or Alberta will be scheduled for 2007.) Email Deena or phone 569-1746 if you are interested. | ||||
| Club Shirts | ||||
| We are purchasing club shirts from MEC and having our logo put on them. The total cost will be about $35.00/shirt. *Send cheques by Nov 30th, 2005 to Donna. | ||||
| Insurance Concerns | ||||
| The executive has some insurance concerns. Club members need to be aware that the SCA insurance coverage is for our scheduled rides only. Any other activities we participate in are not covered. Donna and Susan are investigating other insurance options. | ||||
| IMBA Membership | ||||
| As the Provincial IMBA representative Donna discussed the role of IMBA (International Mountain Bike Association). The members present voted to have the club become a member of the IMBA organization for a $50.00 fee. | ||||
| Women's Outdoor Weekend | ||||
| There is a Women’s Winter Outdoor Weekend being organized by Joe and Lori Milligan of the Wildlife Federation the first weekend in February. | ||||

| Welcome to the Club Members, Year in Review | ||||
| Susan welcomed all the members and non-members who attended the meeting. She thanked everyone for making the club and the club activities so successful during our first year. A short review of the past season was done. We had 59 members join the club and 17 non-members who attended some of the rides. We also have over 70 names of women who have expressed an interest in possibly joining the club. 3 club members participated in their first SCA mountain bike race and a few tried the ORS Wednesday night race series. The weekend co-ed rides were not well attended. Donna Shire became the official IMBA rep for the province and Susan Bladyko received the SCA Outstanding Volunteer in the Recreation and Transportation Sector award for 2004. | ||||

| Survey Results | ||||
| Susan presented an overview of the survey results: | ||||
| Canoe Trip - Interest Level: HIGH | ||||
| Interest was very high in the club to do a canoe trip in 2005. Kathy and Regan have volunteered to plan the trip. They would like input from any interested members regarding what length of trip they prefer (day trip, weekend or longer). They also want to know the level of paddling experience all interested members have. This will determine the length of trip/s organized. For a multiday trip they suggest the group hire a guide. | ||||
| Multi-Sport Camp - Interest Level: MINIMAL | ||||
| The interest for an event of this nature was limited. The club will not organize this for the 2005 season. | ||||
| Cycling Weekend - Interest Level: HIGH | ||||
| Interest again was high for an event of this nature. The R & T (Recreation and Transportation) sector of the SCA has started planning two cycling events for the province in 2005. The first is a BikeFest in Saskatoon during the weekend of the Bikes on Broadway road race. The club members can attend this if they are interested but there will be no formal club involvement. The second event is a Centennial ride across the province the last week of July and the long weekend in August. Participants will be able to do a portion of the ride or the whole event. It will start in Lloydminster and finish in Duck Mountain. The ride will have a support vehicle, meals and accommodations arranged. Details are not finalized. As the SCA R & T committee is already planning the Centennial ride event it was decided that the club participate in this event instead of planning the weekend with another women's club. Donna will look into the possibility of our club meeting the Winnipeg women in Duck Mountain at the conclusion of the Centennial ride. Susan is on the R & T committee planning the events for the province. Lea has volunteered to represent the AdventureHers on the committee. | ||||
| Coached Clinic - Interest Level: HIGH | ||||
| Many of the survey respondents are interested in having a coached clinic. At present we do not have a member volunteer to organize a clinic. The club will reconsider organizing this for 2006. | ||||
| 24 Hours of Adrenalin - Interest Level: MINIMAL | ||||
| There is not a lot if interest in this event. It has been suggested we consider entering a 'corporate team' of 10 another year. | ||||
| Adventure Racing - Interest Level: MINIMAL | ||||
| The overall club membership is not interested in these events. Susan has started a group for those who are interested. The groups plans include some training together geared towards entering a couple of women's teams in the Prairie Pitch race 2005. The training will include some group orienteering, paddling and climbing sessions. | ||||
| MTB Ride Locations - Interest Level: HIGH | ||||
| Our members were almost unanimous in their ride location preferences. They are: 1. Wascana Trails 2. Regina Beach 3. White Butte 4. Caragana Project The club decided to have our rides meet and start at the trail heads instead of in the city. We will meet at Wascana Trails the 1st Thursday, Regina Beach the 2nd Thursday, White Butte the third Thursday and Ruth M buck park the 4th Thursday of every month. Rides will start at 6:00 in May and 6:30 pm the rest of the season. The rides at White Butte will have a choice of either a road or mountain bike ride with a road teaching component. The ride at Ruth M Buck will include mountain bike skills session. Any changes to the ride schedule will be posted on the web page by 4:00 pm on the day of the ride. |
||||
| Road Rides - Interest Level: HIGH | ||||
| All the survey respondents want the road rides to continue. We will leave from White Butte to avoid riding on major highways and because this area provides a variety of ride route options. | ||||
| Bike Maintenance Clinics - Interest Level: HIGH | ||||
| Everyone wants the clinics! These will be arranged to start after Christmas. They will be available to members for a fee of $5.00 per session. If there is room for non-members they can participate for a $10.00 per session fee. The shops doing the clinics have an all volunteered their time and expertise. The fee will be given to the person conducting the clinic as a thank you for donating their time. | ||||
| Winter Activities - Interest Level: HIGH | ||||
| It has been suggested that the club web page have a place that members can document what they are doing throughout the winter and invite other members to join them. For example if someone swims, skis etc on a specific night they put that information on the web page. | ||||
| Women's Outdoor Weekend | ||||
| Seven of our club members participated in the weekend held by the Wildlife Federation. It was enjoyed by all the members. | ||||
| Van and Trailer Availability | ||||
| There are two vans and bike trailers the club can rent for club activities. The SCA has a van and trailer. ORS has a van and the Freewheelers have a trailer. | ||||
| In-city Rides hosted by Dawn Kerr | ||||
| To accommodate our club members who found the mountain bike trails challenging, the club will be providing an option to ride in the city. These rides will take place on the bike path and in residential areas with less traffic. They will be held the first two Thursdays of every month while the rest of the AdventureHers are at Wascana Trails and Regina Beach. The last two Thursdays of the month the club will ride together at White Butte and Ruth M Buck park. Dawn will be coordinating these rides. | ||||
| Web Page design and the 'Great Club Logo Vote' | ||||
| Wendy Bachelu has donated her time to design the club web page. The site is www.adventurehers.com The current feature of the web page is a club logo vote. All members have until November 19th to vote for the logo they prefer. Once the voting has finished the web page and future posters, club clothing etc. will feature this logo. It has been suggested that our club members come up with a club motto after deciding on the logo. | ||||
| Summer Games Volunteers | ||||
| All members are encouraged to volunteer for the summer games. Cycling events are being held the first week of the games. | ||||
| Possible Corporate Sponsorship from Bank of Montreal & CAAWS (Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women in Sport) | ||||
| The club is going to submit applications for grants to the B of M and CAAWS. The club will request the grant money be used for the canoe trip guide and to help defer some of the member's costs for the Centennial ride. The committee working on the grant submissions is Regan Eichel, Adele Bachelu, Lea Lapointe, Donna Shire and Susan Bladyko. | ||||
| Election of 2005 Executive | ||||
| The title of "Ride Leaders" was changed to "Ride Coordinators" before the election was held. | ||||
| President: Susan Bladyko Vice-President: Deanne McMillan Treasurer: Donna Shire Secretary: Regan Eichel MTB Ride Coordinators: Cory Elek, Kathy Lewis, Deb Seibel, Adele Bachelu, Deanne McMillan Road Ride Coordinators: Wendy Bachelu, Susan Bladyko, Deanne McMiilan In-city Ride Coordinator: Dawn Kerr Activities Coordinators: Kathy Lewis, Regan Eichel Promotions & Web Page Coordinator: Cory Elek |
