Athabasca Sand Dunes Canoe Trip (possibly co-ed) – June 2010 – 14 days

The Athabasca Sand Dunes consist of a series of dune fields stretching for about 100 kilometres along the south shore of Lake Athabasca in northwest Saskatchewan. This is the largest active sand surface in Canada and one of the most northerly set of major dune fields in the world. The outstanding scenery is combined with a unique ecosystem, rich in rare and endemic (found only here) plants which scientists consider an evolutionary puzzle.

And, AdventureHers is helping organize a trip to this magnificent location in 2010!

Itinerary
A two day drive in to Carswell Lake up the old Cluff Lake Mine Road will take us to the starting location for our paddle. We will travel down the Carswell and William Rivers, exploring along the way. The river will be challenging and full of surprises, but it is suitable for new paddlers provided there are some experienced paddlers in the group. We finish our paddling either on the shore of Lake Athabasca or by portaging into a little lake called Cantara, where an aircraft will meet us to fly us back to our vehicles where we left them on the shore of Carswell Lake.

Cost: approximately $2,500/person
Group size: 5-9 people (may be co-ed if not enough women)
